It may be that you have not been camping for a long time of never even but there are some items every one needs to know about when you come to choose your camping equipment. Like most things it will soon become apparent that you will get what you pay for. Those that choose to spend a little bit more when getting their equipment will find they can choose much more durable items. Of course these camping items will last you much longer than cheaper alternatives. If camping is something you plan to do more than once it is definitely more economical to invest in high quality camping equipment.
You will find it very hard to survive for long without a decent shelter and for this reason a well made tent should be a priority. Bear in mind that tents are made for different seasons and for example if you want to go camping in winter then a four season's tent is essential. Alternatively tents designed for the summer months will be lighter to carry around, so if you only ever go camping in the summer then these will be the tents for you.
When it comes to your rucksacks as mentioned above the weight of certain items is going to play a role in your enjoyment of the trip. Most people pack way too much and end up being able to move around less due to the physical strain of the added weight. Aside from the essential outdoor clothing, tent, food, water and your sleeping bags anything extra is just going to add weight without any significant advantages. Occasionally people may deem it necessary to carry a small stove although these can be heavy and a fire should be sufficient.
Cutting down on the weight that you carry is going to make for a much easier and enjoyable trip. One of the heaviest things to carry that many people don't think about is water. In most cases water can be collected along the way and boiled to make is safe for drinking. When you cut back on the water you carry you will find your pack gets a lot lighter.
