Portable Shelter Entry Types
Fabric covered shelters are a value based alternative to a conventional wood, vinyl, brick, or metal sided building. These structures can be used to store cars, trucks, boats, RVs, garden equipment, agricultural equipment, and more. These structures are typically intended for year round use and protection. Many of these fabric structures can last up to 25 years with little to no maintenance.
One feature to consider when purchasing a portable garage are the entry doors. Most portable shelters have roll up polyethylene zippered doors. These doors can be rolled up to allow access to the inside. The doors are placed on the ends of the shelter. Some portable shelters have rollup doors on both ends to provide for better access. If a portable shelter has access on both ends, it is a great benefit. Some shelters may not have end doors. These "open ended" structures can be used for year round protection, however, high winds can allow moisture to contact the contents. These types of buildings have more of a carport type application. Open ends are excellent for "drive in/drive out" type applications.
Portable shelters with open ends also provide for better air flow. While most manufacturers have fabric material for the doors, some may use a rigid poly based material. This provides for added security and eliminates having to rollup fabric to open the door. These shelter structures have actual entry access which can be locked and secured. Many shelters can have an actual overhead door. This will add to the cost, however, equipment storage becomes much easier.
Portable shelters come in a variety of styles. It is important to consider the type of door(s). Each consumer's application is different.
